Fridge elves' cabinet

This is actually a built-in cabinet in the narrow space between the refrigerator and the wall. I wanted to use it in some way and at the same time I needed a place for milk boxes, jams, pickles, etc. It hit the spot.

But I wouldn't be the one to settle for an ordinary cabinet. In ours, there is an apartment unit for the fridge elves who live with us. You don't know who the fridge elf is? You can read about it a little further down.

In terms of production, this is the first thing I tried to electrify. It worked, but if a pro saw the mess of wires on the back, he'd probably be amazed. Not in a good way. Anyway, I understood the principle and next time the implementation would definitely be better.

By pressing the small button on the side of the cabinet you can light in the bedroom (lower floor) and in the pub (upper floor). And also on the stairs, so they don't crash on the way.

Elves can climb from the basement to the top floors in a variety of ways.

I remember being in a haberdashery back then and asking the sales lady for a small rope for the elves to climb on. She looked at me rather surprised and offered me some waxed string. "No, that would slip," I said without batting an eye. To this day, I'm still amused that the lady joined the game. She admitted with a serious face that it souldn't slide, it would be dangerous. Immediately we were both choosing the most suitable material for the elves.

I will also add that a few people have predicted that we will burn out if we limit the possibility of venting the refrigerator. So I'll put it in perspective that it's all located in the niche under the stairs, there is still about 5 m3 of free space behind the refrigerator.

And who are the fridge elves?
The fridge elves have been living with us for several years. I don't know exactly how long because they were cautious at first. Here they bit a bit of sausage, there they drank a bit of juice, but it was so little that you weren't sure if it didn't seem like it.

Today I no longer doubt their presence, although I have never seen them with my own eyes. My children say thez have. They even say they see them more and more often. It is true that as time goes on, I too register more traces of their existence.

What do we know about them so far?

An elf is probably very small, but it can organize an incredible amount of food. Sweets are undoubtedly at the top of his menu. If I put the rest of the cake in the fridge, for example, it's practically the same as if I threw it away. The next time I open the fridge, I'm guaranteed to find just a few crumbs. And a dirty plate. The elves never clean up after themselves.

But it's not just about cakes. Fruit yogurts, cream, ham, or even pickled cucumbers are disappearing. One day I put them in and the next day they're gone. Both the children and the husband swear that they had nothing to do with it, so elves remain the only possible explanation.

What the elves, on the other hand, leave unnoticed are vegetables. They seem to really dislike certain types of vegies. For example broccoli gets moldy within a few hours in the refrigerator. A fresh leafy salad soon becomes a limp cloth. It makes me think that the elves seem to have a bit of magic. They deal with everything they don't want in the fridge by casting a mold or a drying curse.

Living with the fridge elves puts quite a strain on our family budget, but we're glad they're here with us. It is said that they only settle where there is love. In order for them to live well with us, I thought of them when designing the built-in cabinet that we needed around the refrigerator. I hope they will be satisfied!

And maybe in the end they will take some vegetables as well.
